Clever puzzles and hilarious animations, however, more than make up for it. Both games have great humor (although dialogues drag on at times), and some of the most devious but logical puzzles ever designed.įamed Monty Python veteran Eric Idle's performance as the voice of Rincewind is flawless, althought some dialogues are very long-winded to the point of frustrating. As bumbling wizard Rincewind, prevent the Dragon from destroying the world in Discworld 1 and find a way to convince the disillusioned Death to resume his day job in the sequel. Two of the most underrated adventure games ever, both Discworld games are based on Terry Pratchett's pun-filled fantasy Discworld series, in which the whole world is carried through space by a turtle, and idioms and puns do have a life of their own. The game takes place in the insane fantasy world created by Terry Pratchett, one of this world's most humourous authors, and is generally nuts. He appears to be very good at it as well, because apparently the universe has decided to continuously challenge him.
This adventure game puts you in the shoes of Rincewind, a wizard whose sole purpose in life is to stay alive. Though it is quite possible to become stuck on each puzzle, this is a solid adventure from start to finish. The writing is done in the vein of Monty Python and voice acting is superb.
There is still much enjoyment to be had with Discworld, thanks to the British humor peppered throughout. While challenge is welcome in this genre, the level of difficulty set here detracts from the fun. Puzzles are quite difficult in that you must combine items for use in obscure, illogical locations. Players choose from various "attitudes" to use while conversing, including salutations, sarcasm, anger and asking questions. Akin to most games in the genre, the interface is point-and-click driven with an emphasis on conversing with townsfolk, solving puzzles, and collecting items, which are stored in the wizard's faithful traveling companion, Luggage. As a low-level wizard named Rincewind, you must save the lavish town of Ankh-Morpork from a vile dragon. With Monty Python and the Flying Circus' Eric Idle lending his voice to the lead character, Discworld is a humorous third-person graphic adventure featuring locations and characters based on Terry Pratchett's series of novels.
